SV Karlskron

Strong Community, Strong Robot

A week before the traditional Bavarian festival Barthelmarkt Oberstimm takes place, the rain is pouring down in ways unseen. For the club SV Karlskron located just south of Ingolstadt in Bavaria this could be a potentially big problem. It is tradition that they play home matches on the day of the Barthelmarkt. And now the fields are flooded.

Normally, this never happens. But in June 2024 a massive rainfall raised the groundwater levels so whenever there is another extreme heavy rain the fields are flooded again. This means that you can’t play on the pitches, and the lines are gone. For the primary chairman of the club Sebastian Pletz, the flooding worries him. The trainings are canceled all week. And perhaps he has to cancel the big matches as well. Luckily, TinyMobileRobots was here to help.

Luckily, the TinyMobileRobot was on hand to help.

“With the robot it doesn’t take more than 30 minutes, so it is not a worry for us”

“Normally we would have to cancel the matches, because we could not mow the pitch and mark the lines in time. But we will see,” states Sebastian Pletz. Friday morning Sebastian, and his companion, second chairman Dominik Gastner, are overseeing the fields. The silent picturesque landscape in the distance contrasts the potential disaster that is right in front of them. The grass is high, and there are no lines on the field. In less than 24 hours the games would start. But for now they have no fields to play on.

Dominik and Sebastian are waiting for their groundsman to come and cut the grass. They are unsure about whether the big machine can mow the entire field, because of its wet condition. Fortunately the sun is shining and an immense heat is bursting out over the small town of Karlskron. In the wearing sun the groundsman arrives. They all decide to give it a try to see if they can cut the grass. The big engine starts, and breaks the silence. The machine runs. Not perfect, but smooth enough to do the job.

In a couple of hours all the high grass disappeared. Now a beautiful playing field is shaping up. But Sebastian and Dominik have to go. As a volunteer you don’t have all the time in the world. The lines are still not drawn.

“We will wait to draw the lines until tomorrow,” Sebastian says, “With the robot it doesn’t take more than 30 minutes, so it is not a worry for us,” he underlines.

Saturday the matches are being played. Karlskron lost the game, but the pitch stood its test.
